WELLSITE GEOLOGY
Wellsite geologists supervise every stage of the drilling process for extracting gas and oil. They study and analyse rocks from the oil and gas wells in order to direct the drilling, and identify the rock formation. They also decide when tests should be carried out and, ultimately, when to stop drilling. They send reports and logs of completed drilling to the operations geologist and offer advice to oil company representatives.
They also incorporate health and safety requirements in daily geological operations.
Wellsite geologists liaise with drilling engineers, petroleum engineers and mudloggers during the course of projects.
OPERATIONS GEOLOGY
The operations geologist provide support to the subsurface and drilling teams during all phases of drilling operations, as well as supervising and supporting the well site teams. However, at the highest level Operations Geology is about more than reporting and task tracking - its about bringing people together and making sure that issues are dealt with and objectives achieved.
Oil Field operations involve multi-disciplinary technical and logistical activity that must be planned for, supported and managed proactively by the Ops Geologist. Problems and issues should be identified and, where possible, anticipated and positively managed to ensure that all interest groups are able to meet their objectives.
The Ops Geologist must be a clear analytical thinker a patient team player and an excellent communicator who can make things happen.
